Barry Jansen

In 1973 Barry started with the Somerset County Park Police as a dispatcher. In 1974 he was sworn in as an officer for the Somerset County Park Police where he served 10 years. In 1984 he transitioned to the Somerset County Sheriff Office ID bureau and then in 1993 to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

While with Somerset he rose to the rank of Lieutenant with specialization in CSI, latent print examination, fire investigation, and was the commander of the county dive/rescue team.

 

He was previously certified by the IAI as a Latent Print Examiner.

While at Somerset he was instrumental in establishing the county’s Forensic Science Laboratory, located in Hillsborough. Barry Joined the NJIAI in 1986, the year it was established, and is one of the first members, his membership number is 49

He was also a member of the main body IAI and the NJ ID Association.

Barry retired as Det. Lieutenant in 2011 and continued working as a civilian forensic science technician for the county for a short time thereafter. He also provided private consultation as a topic expert. Barry has been very active throughout his career to bring better forensic science services to the public and to instill his passion into others as a mentor and teacher. Even after retirement, a second time, he continued to assist the NJIAI as a member of the Board of Directors.

Barry is the longest active member of the NJ Division of the IAI and is recognized for his exceptional dedication to service.
